Pictures to Share: books for people with dementia
Pictures to Share is a social enterprise dedicated to providing high quality books for those with mid to late stage dementia or cognitive problems
Of the 850,000 people in the UK with dementia, 61 per cent have recently felt depressed or anxious, according to Alzheimer's Society research.
For friends and family, it can seem impossible to break into their loved one’s world. A series of books from publisher Pictures to Share use nostalgic and specially designed images to provide a talking point when ‘normal’ conversation is difficult.
The images are designed without too much visual complexity and feature funny quotes, people and scenes.
The publisher's research shows that visual aids like these, or a family scrapbook, can enrich wellbeing, reduce isolation and help people to reconnect.
