Film review: While We’re Young
Our film of the month is While We're Young - a thought-provoking tale that will looks at interesting issues around age, morals, friendship and success
When Cornelia and Josh (Naomi Watts and Ben Stiller) realise they are the last of their friends to start a family, they start to look within and question their own lives.
Put off by the lack of freedom having children presents, and worried they may have missed the boat anyway; they seek distraction from an enchanting 25-year-old couple, Jamie and Darby (Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried). Their open-minded, energetic and curiously organic view on life revitalizes Cornelia and Josh, injecting enthusiasm and excitement into their lives.
But as Josh begins to sense calculated maneuvering by Jamie who starts using his contacts and networks, we begin to question if this young couple are as perfectly authentic as they seem.
With a fantastically rousing scene from Stiller, in which he displays almost hysterical emotions, (a breath of fresh air for a male character), While Weโre Young is more than just a whimsical look at youth, exploring interesting ground into age, morals, and success; what it really looks like, and how far we are willing to go to achieve it.
A captivating cracker of a film from director Noah Baumbach that will leave your mind spinning long after you leave the cinema.
