Embracing the Unseen Self – A Journey from Self-Sabotage to Self-Love
Mindful Poetic Stories is the name of my podcast, and it is a journey from self sabotage to self love. The first episode called "Welcome to Me" captures the essence of embracing the unseen self and expands on the themes of self-reflection, vulnerability, and the dualities of the human experience.
Through my podcast series I share my personal journey, and I invite readers and listeners to consider their own journeys and the importance of embracing every part of themselves, for the uniqueness and the miracle of their being.
“Welcome to Me” speaks into the duality of the human experience. In a world where appearances often dominate, it’s easy to mask our true selves behind the veil of a smile or a carefully curated social media profile. Yet, beneath this surface lies a depth of emotion, struggle, and untold stories that shape who we are.
The inspiration behind this poetic story, was a powerful moment after watching a video of a young poet, Giovani Rose, who won the Foyle Young Poet of the year award with his poem “Welcome to Tottenham.” His raw and honest depiction of his life where he lived, infused with sadness and reality, resonated deeply. This connection sparked a moment of introspection that led to me creating this poetic story “Welcome to Me.”
Post-covid, my life in the concrete jungle in North London started to feel grim. Giovani’s poem brought to the surface my own restlessness but also the stark realisation that leaving the area may not necessarily solve all my own feelings of discontent long term. Instead, it helped me decide to confront and comfort the discontent within me, and parts of myself I had long avoided.
The therapeutic power of poetry helped me showcase how opening up to the realisation that we are all human beings having a unique human experience in this life existence. It helped me explore the dualities within all of us, dark and light, love and struggle, highs and lows, that make up the human experience. It’s a candid portrayal of the internal battles we all face but often choose not to reveal.
But for me the journey to appreciating and respecting my body and brain for its unique design in me, that’s when the real transformation began. However, I wouldn’t call it change so much, it is much more than that, as it is a reconnection to the true essence of me within, with a deeper understanding and respect and appreciate for the complexity of the human experience.
Through this journey, I began to understand that true happiness and contentment cannot always be found by changing our external circumstances alone. Short-term happiness can be found when we try constantly to manipulate and rearrange our external world to suit our perceived happiness needs. Long-term true happiness comes from within.
The Mask We Wear
“Welcome to Me” also touches on the idea that how we perceive ourselves and how others see us can be vastly different. Society all too often teaches us to hide our vulnerabilities and present only our bright side to the world. This can lead to a suppression of our true emotions, which eventually manifests in ways that may be harmful to ourselves and others.
The Human Experience – Embracing the Good and the Bad
Our human experience and the human condition is a tapestry of emotions; joy, sorrow, love, pain, all woven together to create the unique stories of our lives. We often strive for happiness, pushing away the negative experiences as unfair or unwelcome. Yet, it is through these challenges that we grow, learn resilience, and develop a deeper appreciation for the good times.
Conclusion; a Call to Embrace your Life
This is a reminder that vulnerability is not something to fear, but something to cherish, as it is the key to genuine connection and personal growth. I invite you to find the courage to embrace all aspects of yourself, the light and the dark, and appreciate your human experience from a place of self-empathy, love, kindness and gentleness.
I encourage you to embark on your own journey of self-reflection. Write, express, and share your unique experiences, for in doing so, you contribute to the collective human experience. And remember, as you explore your own depths, you are not alone, welcome to me, and welcome to us all.
As a Coach, I help my clients in a process of understanding self, knowing self and loving self.

“We are all ordinary. We are all boring. We are all spectacular. We are all shy. We are all bold. We are all heroes. We are all helpless. It just depends on the day” (Brad Meltzer);
Remember, no matter what kind of day you are having, YOU MATTER
