Summer is truly upon us, and with the balmy weather and longer days comes the perfect opportunity to create unforgettable memories with your significant other – or perhaps show yourself some love, and enjoy some quality me-time, instead. Whether you’re flying solo or coupled up, this is the perfect season to embrace the romance, says relationships expert Anna Williamson…

Sunshine boosts your mood – fact. It stimulates the production of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that contributes to feelings of happiness, making the long holiday season the ideal time for romantic escapades. Summer tantalizes the senses with its array of sights, sounds, and smells.

I don’t know about you, but I find the early morning smells of summer pure nectar. It evokes ‘all the feels’. From the vibrant colors of blooming flowers and sunsets to the chirping of birds and the sweet fragrance of freshly cut grass, summer helps ignite passion and brings out your romantic side.

This time of year is also synonymous with holidays. Whether it’s a beach retreat, a cozy cabin in the mountains, or a European adventure, a summer break offers the opportunity to escape reality and reconnect with your partner in a new and exciting setting. Here are some ideas – for home and away – that will ignite the spark and help make the most of this summer…

Picnic in the park
Pack a hamper with your favorite snacks, sarnies, and some refreshing beverages. Find a cozy spot, spread out a blanket, and enjoy a romantic al fresco dining experience. Bonus points for bringing along a frisbee or a deck of cards for added fun!

Set sail
If you’re near the coast, explore the idea of a sunset boat cruise. Savor the breathtaking views of the coastline whilst enjoying time together.

Listen up
This time of year is full of outdoor music events, and it’s a great opportunity to connect through the joy of good tunes. Dance the night away hand in hand as you enjoy live acts under the open sky. Cut loose, sing along, and enjoy creating timeless memories.

Spice up your relationship
Get creative in the kitchen with a couples’ cookery class. Learn new culinary skills together while bonding over delicious food and wine. Get hands-on in the kitchen as you create culinary delights under the guidance of a professional chef. As they say: food is the key to the heart!

Hit the beach
Embrace the sun, sand, and waves with a solo beach day. Pack a good book, suncream, and your favorite snacks, for a relaxing day of sunbathing and people-watching. Don’t forget your headphones for some beach tunes or a good podcast.

Gaze at the stars
Escape the city lights and cuddle up under a starry night sky. Find a secluded spot away from the hustle and bustle, spread out a blanket, and gaze up at the twinkling stars above. It’s beautifully simple but so romantic. Share stories, dreams, and trade promises as you marvel at the beauty of the universe.

If the idea of spending some QT with yourself is more your bag – I’m a big advocate of showing yourself some TLC – then you might like to give these ideas a go instead…

Enjoy some movie magic
Grab a blanket, some popcorn, and head to a local park or outdoor venue hosting summer movie nights. Enjoy a classic film under the night sky.

Take a hike
Lace up your hiking boots and hit the trails. Explore nature’s wonders while getting some exercise and fresh air. Take in the scenic views, snap some photos, and enjoy the great outdoors.

Pamper yourself at home
Treat yourself to a DIY spa day. Create a tranquil setting with smelly candles, essential oils, and soothing music. Indulge with a bubble bath, a body scrub, and a hair mask. You deserve it!

Tickle your tastebuds
Treat yourself to a culinary adventure by trying out new restaurants, street-food markets, or local eateries. Step out of your comfort zone and indulge in different cuisines, flavors, and dishes.

Embrace the warmth and beauty of the summer months and spark your romantic side – this is the season of love, laughter, and endless possibilities!
